My car has an amp in it and I decided to hook up the girlfriend's amp. I read the instruction manual, knew where all wires went so with everything turned off I slowly migrated the wires over.

All rca input wires , then all speakers wires.. and then finally the easiest...
+ and - and remote

Hook them up and the frig'n new amp goes smokey smokey inside of her amp.

Holy cow is she gonna kill me.
I put remote wire on first , then positive...and then when I put negative on there thats when smoke happened.

What the heck? So I reveresed all wires back to my amp... and of course my ampdoesn't turn on.

Must of blown a fuse for the amp. I just don't know where it is in the car!! I paid a shop to install the whole thing.

Can anyone thing what the heck? red is positive.... black is negative..blue is rmt.

What the heck? It's almost like her amp is shorted inside.

I don't think it would have anything to do with the speaker wire hook up.

Heck I didn't even turn on the ignition.
Any ideas!!!!!!!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Now the amp smells real BAD!!!

I cant tell you your exact problem. But i let a friend of mine use my amp, and we had a toggle put in the remote to cut the amp on and off when he was drivin. To make the story short, sumhow the lil blue rmt wire melts thru the blue part and grounds out the bolts which hold his seat down(which it had been rubbing against under the carpet.) Instantly the lights flicker and car fills with white smoke that smells like @ss to be honest. ANyways, my amp was doing the same, whenever i tried to hook it up, the fuse would blow, even after i had fixed the rmt wire problem for him. Anyways i had it tested and w/e and it worked fine, but we had to replace all his wires, not jus the rmt. Try grabbing a small battery sumwhere and hooking ur g/f amp up to it adn test it to see if itll turn on.
To do this just connect the + and - like normal on the batt and amp. then run a wire from the + to the rmt. If it doesnt work then you may have sum amp problems. Hope this helps.

I tried to run power from my other car battery I have straight to the amp...Yup no light. I figured, I'm glad her's was an old amp anywaz.

I can understand if I hooked up the + and - wrong it would smoke but I didn't get that wrong.

There is no short in the wires against the body or seat as I was running the system just fine moments before.

The only thing I can think of is.

I installed the speaker wires backwards?

But the amp only gets turned on when the key gets turned.

SO WHERE THE HECK DID THE POWER COME FROM!!!!
No car audio place would leave power to the amp on while the car is off ??

?????

I never did check that...
Horse CRAP!

"Must of blown a fuse for the amp. I just don't know where it is in the car!! I paid a shop to install the whole thing."

There should be a main power wire close to the battery.
But if smoke came from your girls amp there is a almost 100% chance that it is fried.

Thanks again for replying so quickly guys!

I checked near the battery coming off the + side and there is no wire. Weird.
They sold me an "amp kit" whatever that is.

The manual for girlfriend's amp says:
[power supplies]

Thermal and reverse polarity protection

[ amplifiers ]

short circuit protection

the guys at the shop are gonna have a hoot !

I'll call the shop in the morning.

Went to shop.

I got my amp hooked up and it works.

I had hooked the + hooked up to RMT and RMT up to +.

So switched it and my amp works.

Pays to install during light and not at dusk.

Now on to what I found out.

I found out there is a 40 amp plastic fuse coming off the battery and it wasn't blown.

My amp turns on when ignition turns on.

So somehow the girlfriend's amp got power even though ingnition key was off?

Any guesses?

A short somewhere in the amp?

What an idiot I am.

I'll get to the bottom of it!

If the power wire is connected directly to your battery you will always have power goin through it(for ex. if you unhook it and drop it on metal it will spark big). However, the amp doesnt power on until there is power thru the remote wire, which is linked in someway to the ignition in most cases, therefore it comes on when the ignition does. But, yes the + wire is live and is able to draw power ne time, even if the ignition is off.

Thanks!
I bet the rmt wire is into the deck so when deck turns on it does.
Or to ignition switch...etc etc...

Anywaz girlfriend has somehow moved her amp but not smelled it. It maybe a couple weeks until I figure it out. I'll have to run down to the shop and ask them to double check my theory.

WHICH IS WHAT I SHOULD OF DOWN IN THE FIRST PLACE TO MAKE SURE!!!
