I have the older Version of the Alpine 12" type R 4 ohm sub. I think the sub is in good condition, I havent used it in 2 years..I also have a Rockford 401s amplifier, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-NZS7TDacXgy/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?I=575401S&search=r ockford+401s

I just wanted to know if this combination would work well to power the sub, I am pretty clueless, and am getting them installed tommorrow. Also, when I hooked up the sub to the amps in my friends car, the sub blew their fuses the second they hooked it up..is this due to a bad sub??
The amp sat in the trunk of my car all of last winter, but looks good. Any help would be appreciated.

Get a DMM and measure the resistance of the sub. If you have 2 pairs of pos and neg connectors on the sub, it's DVC.
Check the power wires on the amp. They could be shorting out on the chassis or loose wires.
