Just curious about these HU's. Im looking to get a Alpine HU off ebay but am having a hard time deciding on the following since i cant find any NEW but i definetly wanna stick with the 2002-2004 models for there rep. THanks

Right now ive narrowed it down to 7888,9813,9815,9833,9835 and those range from 2002-2004.

If you're willing to pay for the XM subscription, the 7878 would be a good head unit...ultimately the 9833 and 9835 seem like the best. Though the only difference between the two is the display-even though the biolight is gimmicky, it does make the characters a lot easier to read.

But why the change? I thought you had something nicer?

I have a Kenwood XXV-01D and its great. After owning Alpine,Eclipse,PioneerPremier,KenwoodExcelon i have found that ive liked Alpine and Pioneer Premier the most as far as overall HU is concerned. I actually miss my old Alpine 7892 which i believe is the same year as the 7878 but i could be wrong. Anyways i could get a 7878 brand new for like $250 or get the 9835,9833,9815,9813 used on ebay but if the newer units are overall better meaning more sound control and crossovers etc.. then ill go for the one with more performance. Not sure if ill get XM yet

if your going between 2002-05, then my recommendation would be the Alpine 7969, or 7998, both Alpine flagship HeadUnits. 7969, has a lot of features, and you will get it for cheap. It still looks nice, and has no clipping pre-outs, bio-lite display, fantom face, copper chassis...etc etc, 7998 is the updated one, and plays MP3's (I think) you could buy an alpine CD changer which does MP3's with the 7969...

I have bought one, needs work, but Alpine have a good service section (in UK) and they will service it, and repair whatever needs doing for a fixed fee, this includes return postage...

Have a look at some other head units too...

difference between the 9835 and the 9833
is basically just the screen.
theres a few other little things, like
you can put the date in the 9835 and you
cant in the 9833
both have the same features beyond that
