Becker CDR-220 display problem

I hope someone can help with a Becker stereo problem I have. I have retro fitted a Becker CDR-220 into a '94 911. The display is very dull and almost impossible to see in daylight and still very poor at night. I have asked both Porsche and car stereo experts here in Australia and no one seems to have any idea. Porsche said they shipped in another unit from Germany as mine was still under warranty and they had the same problem with it when they went to fit it. They said it could be the angle the display is viewed at...which to me seems strange as I'm sure the design would accommodate for such things like fitment into other Porsche models (in fact it was offered in the Porsche accessory catalogue and seems to me to be a cop out...but they can offer no more). Has anyone heard of this problem before? If so, is there a solution? This stereo has it's own amp and so the cars original stock amp was bypassed when fitted...could this have something to do with it?
Also the unit was shipped without a manual (?!), so obviously I'm finding it a bit hard to get the best out of the stereo. Are there any copies of a manual I could buy? or is there a sourceI can source get this information?

Thanks,

if you bought it new, get the manual from the dealer. demand it. you paid for it.

as for the display, check voltage at the head unit. Some car companies have low voltage issues when replacing the factory radio in some models, although I don't recall having any issue with the 911 before. I've done a few 911s, 935 turbo slantnose convertibles, etc
It may just be a lousy display design. I've seen that in some models as well.. Alpine had one unit that was notorious for having a very dim display. That single model turned a lot of people off to Alpine entirely.. all over one problem with one model.

Hey Thanks GW for your help...I'll get the dealers to look at this...here's hoping it's more about a voltage than display issue. Do you know if anyone else has had a display issue with the CDR-220 though?

Got an update from another Becker Specialist (soundlabsgroup.com.au) FYI....apparently the Porsche cdr-220 is suited to only specific models (Porsche Boxster) as the display cannot be viewed from certain angles...the Becker CDR21 and 22 is apparently the better option (even though the CDR-220 was offered to 911-993's as an after market upgrade) So there seems to be a prob from the start..

Cheers,
