ok this is not really a car question but it should be in about the same catagory

ok i bought a 12dc switch w ground lead and i spliced into just a regular molex connector off the 12v power lead(yellow) bc i put in a fan controller and wanted a way to just run my cpu fan at full power
i had a switch w/ no ground lead and it worked fine so i know it's not the wiring but when i installed this new switch with led which won't work unless grounded
i spliced into the ground on the same powerconnector (the one closest to the yellow cord) coming out of the molex connector and it works but now whenever i turn the switch off my monitor goes blank and all my case fans go off, but the power LED on front is still on
Is their any other way to ground the switch (i tried to ground to case - same thing happened) or did i hook up the ground to the wrong ground or what?

i know its long but i wanted to be through
