My kenwood kac-x811d amp says its 1 ohm capatible, so i recently wired my 2 10" alpine swr-1042d subs to it at 1 ohm. The subs pound incredibly hard until i turn my sub control past 5 or my volume past 20, then the amp blinks E-1 which means the insdie of the amp is heating up, the amp then shuts off. Why is it doing this? Is it not truely 1 ohm stable, is there a way I can wire these subs so there at 2 ohms?
It could be a lot of things. Speakers change their level of resistance constantly. The rated specs are just average resistance. Also, you could have the gains set too high, and also, there's the fact that kenwood doesn't make the greatest amps in the world. Your other option is to wire it at 4 ohms but i don't know that you'd want to do that because you'd loose probably 75% of the power its now putting out.
