ok so say u have this sub that pushes 1000 rms and an amp that does say 1300 rms is this bad for the sub like shorten its life or will it be fine

If you don't push the subwoofer too hard, then no it won't hurt a thing. A speakers limits will be determined by the enclosure more than the rated RMS, which is a thermal rating for the voice coil. You will typically reach a speakers full potential with less power in most common enclosure designs. Main thing to remember is to listen to the subwoofer, if you hear excessive distortion, turn it down.

aight thanks cuz i want a hifonics bx2005D n it claims to be pushin at 1200 at 2 ohms so i dont wana kill my precious subs =(

it is probably a little overated and it's probably tested off of 14.4 volts so you will be fine, take about 150watts off what they say and thats the number i would go off of from hifonics
