Do you think this would be a good/cheap spl sub to play with?

It's the Audiobahn... yes I know Audiobahn... but its cheap, and I'm just looking for spl... and audiobahn's get loud.
The Audiobahn AWES10P eternal series. I can get it for $109, and it is 900 watts rms, 1800 peak, 160oz magnet. Do you think this would be a good sub just to play with for spl, or do you think there is something better for the price?

I would, but it has to be a 10... and the type X is like $240 a piece... more than I want to spend for a sub that I won't even really use that much.:-)

As long as it can handle 800 watts rms, and get loud I don't care!
Could you post me a link?

Taylor,

I would stay away from the audiobahns...thats just me though. I hear people on other board blabbering about the Immortal being a good sub, but a friend of mine killed 4 Immortal 15's in about 2 hours. The build quality is terible.

I would look into that CV V-max that James is talking about, but i'm pretty sure one v-max would about blow in half w/ 800wrms. (it may take 800wrms right at tuning freq for 3sec burps though)

You may wanna look at an RE SX10, they can get loud. If your interested in a SQL sub, I'll sell ya my Brahma 10" for $235 shipped.

What amp do you have?

RF P8002, it puts out 800watts rms at 4 ohms. The audiobahn is the eternal series... not the emortals.
I'm only wanting to spend $100 for the sub... unless you want to sell me the Brahma for that... I can't afford it at the moment.:-)

taylor the mtx 10 8000 can handle 800 rms for short burps my friend had his in a 4 cf box port tuned to 63 hz and it hit 145 db in a small truck

The only other one that might handle my amp, and in my price range is the Audiobahn AW1000N, 600 rms, 1200 peak, 120oz magnet, $99.
I know audiobahn isn't that great, but they are the only subs I know of that are in my price range, can handle that much power, and are mostly for spl... wich is what I want. I don't really care for sq for this 1 sub.
If anyone knows if either of these subs is a good idea, or something better plz let me know!

P.s, I don't know how to burp... I'm just talking about having this sub for when my friends are mouthing off, and I slap this sub in... and play just long enough for there jaw to hit the floor.:-) Then I'll put my other subs back in.

a burp is when a sub is put in a box they call a one note wonder designed just around that frequency and blast it for one to 3 seconds....its a pure spl box built around your car or trucks resonant frequency ...this can be hard on a sub and if pushed too hard you can blow the sub

The box that it will be going in is about 2 cubic FT, and will it with stand playing a song or 2 at that power?
Also... I'm trying to beat the spl of my 2 RF HX2's... they are getting 400 rms each.
Do you think they will do it?

a box like im talking about isnt built for music but you can build the box to accept interchangable ports like i built one for music one for all out one note wonder that way you can use it either way music or spl 2 cubic feet is a good start for that sub

I would use the same box that my HX2's are in... I'll just take 1 out, and plug the other sub up to it when ever I'm trying to show off!:-) I'm not going to compete... just agenst my friend's.:-) Thats why I'm not planning on spending much money on it... it's just going to be a jack around sub.
Do you think 1 8000 will do the job, beat my hx2's, and not blow?:-) or would the audiobahns be better for the price. I'm open to all ideas.

Taylor,

i have a 98 chevy just like yours...but mine is 2wd. its a little complicated to build a box that fits under those back seats. the floor of the truck has a bunch of humps and stuff.

here is a ported box i built to fit under my back seat for my brahma.
http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/650399/2

you may wanna try a box kinda like that one...if you build one, i just hope you have a table saw and have some expirience w/ box building.

Your kinda SOL then...lol

I took me forever to get the angles right on my box...since then, i have just ditched to back seat.

I use my grandpa's table saw to build my boxes...he helped me on that box that fits under the back seat. We both had a hard time, and he is a carpenter. (literally...he has been a carpenter since he was 15)

all you can do is take as many measurment from the box you have, and try to duplicate it. I had so design my own box though...because the magnet on the brahma wouldnt fit into a "normal" box.

You might also want to look into the flame compression series if you want to go with Audiobahn. The Aw1008t is 1000 watt rms with a 200oz magnet. I have a aw1208t, which is the same line only a 12" and thing gets extremely loud.

Sometimes having a smaller or larger cab doesnt make a huge difference. The shape and acoustics of the cab make a huge difference though...tahoe's are nice for really low-loud bass. And crx's are just loud period.

i wonder what your resonance freq is in that car?

yea...that would get you your real reasonance freq. (within bout +/- 1hz)

burp at every frequency between 30-80hz and record each reading. then take the box out of the car and put it on the ground the the broad open. then burp from 30-80hz again w/ the mic about 3ft away from the subs.

find the difference in each reading and were ever you see the biggest difference...that is where you have the mose "cabin-gain". then build a box that will peak that that freq.

Kids at my school think every audiobahn is great, and the one I'm looking at has the huge magnet... another big plus for the kid's at school. They look at the magnet and go, "look at the magnet! You know they have to slam!" haha thats another reason I'm looking so hard at audiobahn.

NO MAN, GET SOME SHIZNIT AUDIO 14" SUBS. THEY WILL ROK THE HIS-OUSE. I'M TELLIN YA MAN, XBL AND LMT DONT WANNA FVCK WITH SHIZNIT AUDIO SUBS.

I RECOMMEND THEIR BIZ-NICH LINE. I HAVE 6 OF THOSE 14"ERS IN MY GEO-METRO AND I CAN BARELY HEAR THE BRAKES SQUEEL WHEN THEY BUMP. I ACCTUALLY BLEW OUT A TIRE BECUASE OF THESE SUBS, THE SOUND PRESSURE WAS JUST TWO MUCH FOR EM!!!
