how big of a differance in sound is there between 1 12" or 2 12" because i have no idea

actually about +6dB, since you have twice the drivers, and twice the power usually.
it's quite noticeable if you're adding a second identical sub, and giving it as much power as you gave the first sub.

exactly sub! if you cut the power in half when adding a second sub then thats where you get a 3db increase, but if you double the power(3db's) and double the driver(3db's) you gain about 6db's on average.

3db gain if you use a ported box on the sub you have, double the amplifier power, or add another sub without adding power.

6db if you double the subs and the power.

So double subs, double power and going from sealed to ported should yield about a 9 dB gain in output?
