Component mounting - separate vs. coaxial

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with mounting components in a coaxial configuration? I see that some sets can be installed separately or coaxially and would like some opinions on how the coaxial mounting compares with regular mounting. Are there any drawbacks with coaxial mounting? Would a coax component install be better than using a woofer in the bottom of the door and the tweeter in the sail panel? Thanks for the help.

There aren't any drawbacks to a coaxial mount if you're referring to a braxial mount (bracket that holds the tweeter ahead of the woofer). The drivers will integrate very well and provide great performance. The imaging is the main reason to place tweeters, etc. in different locations, different cars have different characteristics, and component systems allow you to experiment with different configurations. Good results can be had with either, it's all in what works best in your vehicle and with your tastes.

Thanks for the info Jonathan. How about a coaxial mount like the one used by Image Dynamics Chameleon components where the tweeter mounts in the middle of the woofer just like a regular coax speaker and is not supported in front of the woofer like the CDT braxials? Does that type of mounting have any drawbacks or is it basically the same as the braxial setup? Thanks again.

Not really as long as the tweeter doesn't interfere with the wave coming from the woofer. Usually a braxial mount offers a little better performance when talking about dispersion, but it's not a huge difference.
