Currently I have 2 Infinity Reference 1230's powered by my jbl 1200.1. They sound good and all but I was thinkin about upgrading to a higher model. Basicly it comes down to the Kappa Perfect 12.1 or the Kappa Perfect 12VQ. Anyone know of any difference between the 2? Besides the price of course =p Are the VQs worth the extra money?
The 12.1 has a slightly lower RMS rating, but a higher sensitivity and lower frequency response. The big advantage of the VQ's are that they can be adjusted to work well in different enclosures.
I wouldn't say that. The numbers on the 12.1 look better at first glance, but when you notice that it's not really perfectly suited for any specific enclosure in particular and the 12VQ can be adjusted so that it is much more appropriate for a specific enclosure... when you put it in that enclosure those slightly better numbers on the 12.1 are pretty meaningless.
