I am getting a 12w7 in a HO box. I cannot afford a JL audio 1000/1, so i am wondering which Hifonics amps would work with it, or any other amps around the $300 area.. I hear the w7s can only be used with 3ohm stable amps, so which amps other then the jl ones can do that.. thanks in advance

PPI DCX 1000.1
Xtant x1001
Phoenix Gold Xenon X600.1
I say if you spent that kind of cash on a sub you should be willing to spend on a top of the line amp. dont cut corners now. get the potential out of your sub!

they would have no trouble at all running 3 ohms. they all can handle it. the ppi can handle 1 ohm, the Xtant 2 ohms and the Pheonix Gold 1 ohm.

adam,

what voice coil configuration does that 12w7 have?

depending on the coil config, someone here can tell you what amp(s) will work.

what i am saying is that the JL 12w7 comes in more than one VC configuration.

if i remember correnctly, you can get it in either SVC 3ohm or DVC 3ohm versions.

if the sub he has is SVC 3ohm, then all the amps listed above would work nicly. but the PPI amp would only produce about 500wrms at 3ohms.

if it is a DVC 3 ohm sub, it would yeild a 1.5ohm load in parallal and i wouldnt recommend using the xtant amp on the sub since that amp is 2ohm stable. (but it would still prolly work on the sub because of box rise, i just wouldnt recommend running it in at nominal load that is lower than the amps rating)
