Ok, question, I know that it is said that you need an amplifier if you are going to use component speakers. I am looking at the alpine CDA-9833 head unit that has a built in amplifier in it and is rated at 60x4 RMS. Is that head unit able to run components fine with the internal amp or do I still need to put a separate amp in to run the components?

i'm pretty sure that its 60X4 max so its about 25 to 30 RMS in reality. anyway, depending on what kind of components you get, they can still sound good. I know that the infinity components sound good with only a HU. But if you find the money later on, a 2 channel amp if definitely recommended.

The CDA-9833 is a very nice HU, but Anonymous is right on target, 60w x 4 is the maximum -- that means with high distortion -- and 26w x 4 is the continuous output rating. For any decent component set, 26 watts is going to sound pretty anemic at even reasonable listening levels. Go for the separate amp.
