for a sub with dual 2-0hm coils or dual 4-ohm coils if they were wired to have about the same rms watts from an amp.... would they sound the same??

well your question doesnt make the most sense. but dual 2-ohm coils can be wired to 1-ohm or 4-ohms. Dual 4-ohm coils can be wired to 2-ohms or 8-ohms. so on the exact same amp, a sub with dual 2-0hm coils will not be the same as dual 4 ohm coils.

i think(im not positive) but the 4 ohm would sound clearer and with less distortion. i think

ok thanks, im kinda new to all this.. but my subs say 750 watts rms, 1500 watts peak... if i powered them at 900 watts rms.. would it damage the sub?

it really depends on what amp ur talkin bout and if its stable at 1-ohm or 2-ohms.

well i ordered all the stuff, but im wondering if i should cancel the order and change some things around. the subs are 2 kicker 12" L7's with 750 rms and 1500 peak

dual 2-ohm coils*

if you got the dual 2-ohm coils, then u'll be ok. if u got the dual 4-ohm coils then u'll be givin each sub 900watts rms. i dont know if they can take that.

then just wire the coils on each sub in a series and 1 sub to each channel. that will sound good.

if you run them at 900 you should be okay, but L7s have been known to crap out on people. that is a massive amp. i think you should be okay, if not just be easy on the gain settings, so they dont get completely 900 watts. i wouldnt cancel though. you should be set

no, but im thinkin if i get 15" l7's dual 2-ohm coils, it would work out better. the specs on those are

Sensitivity: 88.5 dB
RMS Power Range : 75-1000 Watts
Peak Power Handling: 2000 Watts
Impedance: 2 Ohm
Low Frequency response: 18 Hz
High Frequency Response: 100 Hz
Diameter: 15 Inch

Features
aluminum deposit cone
non-resonant aluminum basket
Santoprene rubber surround
dual 4-ohm voice coils for wiring flexibility
frequency response 18-100 Hz
power range 75-1,000 watts RMS (300 watts per coil)
peak power handling 2,000 watts
sensitivity 88.5 dB
top-mount depth 8-1/4"
sealed box volume 1.5-6.0 cubic feet
ported box volume 3.0-6.0 cubic feet
Warranty - Onlinecarstereo.com 1 Year warranty

....the thing i dont get is "dual 4-ohm voice coils for wiring flexibility"..... the site says its dual 2-ohm, but in the description it says dual 4-ohm, but it says that same phrase for both the dual 2-ohm and the dual 4-ohm models.

if u get the 15s, then u want to get the dual 4 ohm coils. cuz then you could wire them in parallel and hook 1 sub to each channel for 900watt rms a peice.

would that sound a lot better than the 12" L7's?

ok, but what type of box do you think would be the best for the 12 and the 15?

personally, i'd go sealed. if you want it a little louder you could go ported, but it will take up more room.

so if i got the 15" l7's and ran them at 1 ohm, would my amp be able to take it...someone said running them at low ohms can mess things up?

sublime420
Unregistered guest
ur amp could take it but the subs might not be able to. at 1 ohm ur amp will put out 1500rms a channel and the 15s are suppose to take 1000rms. but run them at 2 ohms and they will each get 900rms. that should be plenty.

ok, so if i go with the 15" Dual 4-ohm's how would i wire them, the website you sent says they can either be 1 ohm or 4 ohm loads, how would i make it 2 ohm?

wire the voice coils in parallel and 1 channel to each sub. 900 watts each that way, then u r safe, and should be getting plenty of power, and should be loud enuff. I'd go a ported box tho.
