What's the difference between say a Jensen vs. Rockford Fosgate vs. US Amps? What exactly do you get for the extra money you spend?

I hooked up a borrowed 300 watt bridged Jensen and my sub sounds better (mostly more powerful) than running on a 150 watt mono Rockford Fosgate. The RF would put out 300 watts into 2 ohms but I have a single 4 ohm sub. Duh, twice the power is gonna work better since the sub can take it, but really, why are you all so down on these cheap amps like Jensen?

For me : Engineering quality, mortality rate...etc.I'm sure the pros here would be able to elaborate more.

The single most important thing to an amplifier is build quality and material quality. With good materials comes better S/N, efficiency, lower distortion, etc. Amplifier topology and "patented technology" isn't what determines a good amp. Many of the top amps you'll lay your hands on are some of the simplest amps out there, and they use milspec components.
