I have a model 800 xstatic batcap. http://www.batcap.net/index1.htm. on the install link it tells me not to ground it to the chassis. why? i dont want to run a cable from my main battery to the batcap. I thought that ground was supposed to be as short as possible to avoid picking up static? In fig. 3 on the install link it shows the amp grounded to the chassis then the ground on the batcap going to the ground on the amp. isn't that the same thing as grounding the batcap to the chassis? if i ground my batcap to the chassis, then run a wire off the negative terminal to the ground of the amp, will that work? any info is greatly appreciated. thanks.

e-mail the makers of the product and ask them.
I have no idea what they're thinking.
Then again, I don't see much of a use for their products either.

glasswolf,
i emailed them and they sent me this:
Yes your suggestion will work because you are using a direct coupling
between the battery and amp.. We should have said not to use ground for
primary connection. It is all in the wording. We thank you for your
suggestion and if we can be of further assistance please don't hesitate
to call us at 334-692-4650 or email us.
Sincerely, Ray McKenzie

so i guess they made a mistake on the site. would it be better if i ran a 1/0 gauge directly from my battery? would that be a really good ground? also about the batcaps, no good? i know it doesn't replace a HO alternator and i plan to get one soon. if you go on the batcap site and click on their 8400 model it supposedly is used in the loudest vehicle. thanks for any info glasswolf.

it isn't that it's no good. I just don't see a big need for one. Thats all.
I'd just ground the battcap to chassis, not all the way back to the starter battery terminal.
also be sure you use large gauge power line for battery to ground, alternator to battery, and for the motor ground cable.
these will improve overall performance as well.
