Power handling depending on box

I know that the larger the sealed box is, the lower the sub'll hit and less power it'll handle, why is this though? Why is this not the case for ported boxes? Thanks all

Think of a sealed box as a compressed spring.
the smaller the box...the tighter the spring.
basically, the reason sub in a smaller box can
handle more power, is because the pressure
inside the box has greater control over the
suspension...meaning, the sub will
overheat(thermally) before it bottoms out(mechanically).
however...since the sub is so highly
controlled in a smaller box...the sub
has a more difficult time playing notes
which require more excursion...eg. low notes.

In regards to ported boxes...
the size of the box does effect the power handling
and its ability to play lower in some regards.
However, the port length and port area (tuning)
have a much larger effect...
thats all I got time for...sorry
