How to read specs

How do u tell how loud a sub is by reading the specs..i don't understand all the stuff..just want to be able to tell if what i'm lookin at is gonna be loud or not.???

the sub usually has an spl reading. most of them are not eveen accurate though. people mostly go by the rms wattage of a sub. i think knowing what the abbreviations stand for on the spec will help u out a bit. http://www.teamrocs.com/technical/pages/terms.htm

the "SPL" rating and power handling both are meaningless in this case.
if you want a rough idea of the SPL a given speaker is capable of then look at the cone surface area (or diameter) and the Xmax or excursion.
That's a very rough way to tell.
There is no perfect way to know how loud a sub will be though since it's based on a LOT of factors.
sub design, xmax, enclosure, vehicle, power, and plenty more.
