In fact I had to cut the gain back to just under half to stop the clipping, and it's still pretty loud. Even though tthe subs are in a box that they weren't designed for. Plus the price was right. I've had no problems with it as of yet, but I will have to admit it's only like 3 weeks old. |

That's to reach peak output. dual 2 ohm coils, so a pair of 4 ohm subs. go to sounddomain.com the JBL bp1200.1 is $200 right now. great amp there, and it'll give ya 600wRMS per sub. all the power ya need for those subs, and save about half the cost of a Kicker amp, and about a fifth of what a JL 1000/1 would cost. |

I'd probably avoid a refurb'ed subwoofer.. personally. an amplifier, or other "solid state" sort of device, sure.. fixing those is just soldering in new parts.. usually they come out as good as new, and offer some limited form of warranty to insure they work. I've bought used stuff on eBay as well as a few refurb'ed items. I've even bought DOA stuff and fixed it myself which equates to a home refurb.. hehe one of my 2250SX amps came DOA.. works like new now. |

JL Audio makes high end car audio gear, mostly in the upper price ranges. JBL makes good stuff, but tends to be more affordable, and not really on the level of JL's gear. |

JL Audio is waht you have to buy from a local dealer. the JBL bp1200.1 is all over the net. cardomain.com has plenty of them. other options are Kicker and MTX, Cadence, Rockford Fosgate, Avionixx, and Memphis. |

Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 4821 Registered: Dec-03 | nothing is "wrong" per se. the JBL amps even though they are mono amps, offer 4 RCA inputs (front and rear L+R) so if you have 2 sets of pre-outs, you can fade and not affect bass. Something in the amp's design basically makes the amp work best if all 4 inputs have signal, so if you run one pair of RCA lines to the amp, split it at the amp so all 4 inputs have signal from the 2 leads. This makes the amp hit a bit harder basically. as for the FMOD comment, the amp has no built in infrasonic filter. If you're running a sealed bod for subs, this doesn't matter in the least. If you run a ported box, you'll want to go to www.partsexpress.com and order a 16Hz or 25Hz high-pass filter (RCA level) by FMOD. this will block subsonic frequencies from the amp. this is important due to one of the quirks of ported and bandpass enclosures. below the tuned frequency of the box, the subwoofer loses damping, which means the sub could easily over-extend, causing motor damage to the sub. The fix for this is to block those frequencies from the sub, by using a high-pass filter set about a half-octave to an octave below the port's tuned frequency. that's pretty much everything you need to know about it and everything I can think to tell ya. no big deal on either issue really. |
