what are the advantages/disadvantages to putting 6X9's in a boxes?

I am curious about the exact same thing. I have 2 6x9 Kenwoods in the normal holes in the back for a 96 dodge neon. I don't recommend getting these speakers because I have fought with them for stability for a while now. But I am also curious like Brandon if there is an added advantage to port-holed or sealed box units for 6x9's. and....bump
