I have a 510 DVR which have had four about 4 years. With optical plug in back I hooked to my stereo but am not getting digital sound. Should I be? The manual says to look at programming guide to see sound quality but it is rarely listed.

Yeah you have to set it to output digital audio.

I have a different one but I went into the menu and went to audio then set it to Dolby Digital/PCM. I don't know if your stereo can handle DD but I'm pretty sure it'll take PCM.

I checked and it is set for digital/pcm. Do you get digital sound?

Yes I do. What is your stereo? You have to make sure everything is set correctly.

I have a new Sony receiver. I have an optical cable from the back of the dish receiver to the stereo. I get PCM no prob but wondering why I don't get Dolby digital. I do on my dvd player.

I should remind you that you only get Dolby Digital when you're watching a movie (says DD in info), like PPV. Just look at the PPV channels and you'll find ones with DD.

The premium networks, HBO, Showtime, Starz broadcast some movies in DD. The guide will say DD on the ones that are.
