I'm looking for a home theater speaker system at the moment. I found this mirage 5.1 speaker set from electronics expo. They also have a coupon " JKL33X " which took off $224. The total, with the $40 shipping, came out to be $414.68. Does anyone know of a speaker set close to this price? I'm looking for something no more than $500. The more I save, the better :D Also, has anyone heard these speakers? If so, any issues?

A friend of mine has the Nanosats set up in a fairly large room. These little speakers will play surprisingly loud given their size. He has the four front and rear speakers close to the same elevation, and the center is higher directly over the TV. The sub seemed a little anemic to me, however this may be due to the crossover setting may be too low in his receiver. These Nanosats don't come into their own until about 125 Hz, so the common 80 hz crossover setting is way too low for this system. I wouldn't buy this speaker set unless I could set my receiver's crossover to at least 100 Hz -- 125 Hz would be even better.

Overall, the Nanosats produce satisfying sound both on movies and music. Their main strength is the wide dispersion, producing a room filling soundstage minus any point source distractions. This dispersion also makes speaker placement a little less critical. You can do worse than this system (e.g.Bose), and even though you can crank these speakers, you can't expect room-shaking volume levels from speakers of this size. Their high end seemed a tad harsh at times, though to be fair the room I heard them in was a bit live. I wouldn't hesitate to use these speakers in a situation where larger speakers would be impractical.

Alternatively, Home Theater Magazine has been high on this system:

I have not heard these.
