Do upscaling DVD players really make a difference?

Ive heard that 'it depends'. Ive read that it depends a lot on your TV and whether or not it upscales on its own, etc. Is there any way to determine whether or not an upscaling DVD player will be a wise purchase for any particular TV? The TV I am ordering next week is the following:

Any ideas if an upscaling DVD player will be worth buying? Or am I stuck purchasing one in the store and finding out for myself?

I have same question. Anyone know if the Sony SXBR 50 in. LCoS is good on its own or better letting a DVD player do the scaling?

The difference depends on the source DVD, the player and the display device with this axiom: you can not coax HD from a non-HD source. The differences tend to be subtle, generally not on par with what one notices when switching from composite to S-video, for example.
