Do upscaling DVD players really make a difference?

Ive read that it depends a lot on your TV and whether or not it upscales on its own, etc. Is there any way to determine whether or not an upscaling DVD player will be a wise purchase for any particular TV? The TV I am ordering next week is the following: http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/ArchivedTelevisions_2005/LNR328WXXAA.asp Any ideas if an upscaling DVD player will be worth buying? Or am I stuck purchasing one in the store and finding out for myself?

The differences tend to be subtle, generally not on par with what one notices when switching from composite to S-video, for example.
