Israel has banned imported iPads and is confiscating them at the airport (FT).

Apparently the "American" iPad works on a different Wi-Fi network standard and might could damage Israel's domestic network. Seems strange to me?

The tech specs on the Apple website appear as industry standards:

Wi-Fi model
  • Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology
Wi-Fi + 3G model
  • UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
  • Data only
  • Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology
I don't see what the problem is. Perhaps we'll learn more soon. For the meantime, don't take your iPad to Israel.

The Associated Press is reporting Israel today lifted a ban on the iPad, ending restrictions that had been imposed over concerns the gadget's wireless signal could disrupt other devices.
