Hi guys, hope this is the right board for my question. I am in the 'audio for dummies' section and need some advice. I inherited the rdp980 and rdd980 and want to set them up for my kids to use - my question is can I connect the rdp directly to an Amplifier or must it be set up in another way with a preamp or the like? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello JD. I believe the RDP is a DAC correct? If so, it would need to be hooked up to a pre amp in most cases. If the Amplifier has volume control then you could hook it directly up to an amp.

JD, you have a trans/dac. This is a cd player in 2 parts, it will be connected to a preamp or receiver the same way as a cdp would be used, as an input.

Hi thanks for the info, the RDP is a digital audio processor, the RDD is a cd player. So the cd inputs to the processor and the processor becomes the input for the preamp/receiver/amp

I could not drag up the parts themselves more than what I had.
If the DAC is also a processor, with a volume control(VC), then yes.
