Dear all,

I want to upgrade my digital frontend, which is a Marantz CD72mkII. Should I buy a new, excellent CD player (Rega Planet 2000)? or should I buy a used hi-end D/A converter instead (a used Musical Fidelity A3-24)? My system includes ALON I mkI and NAD C372.

How do you think? please suggest.

Thank you.

I had a Rega Planet 2000 for a few years. loved every minute of it. Best buy for £500 I ever found. Watch out though the top loading mechinism is a little prone to wear. In the end that's one of the reasons I sold mine on.
Another very good CD is the Exposure 2010 www.exposurehifi.com about £100 more than the Rega. Some are starting to come on the second hand market now though. A very similar sound to the Rega but (Sorry Rega) better build quality. Any high end DAC will blow your system wide open but will still be limited by the other components. You may not get the best out of it until you upgrade other parts of your system.
You may notice a better improvment by going for the CD upgrade. You can still add the DAC later.
