Is Marantz SR8400 Really Good for even 500 bucks?

We all saw sr8400 sold in ubid for less than 500 although the list price is over 12k. From the paper, they look pretty good even though no THX. Does anyone know why they are trying to get ride of SR8400? Give the way to new models? then why not other old models such as SR7400? Has any one audition it and compare it with SR7400 or even Denon 3800?

Thanks

Don;t pay attention to The THX cert.. The 8400 is a good catch Reciever for 500. It has more oomph and is smoother then the 7400, which is quite the reciever itself. I have installed a few 7400s and one or two 8400s. The 8500 is the newer model which has DVI switching. The 7500 has a THX cert.. (had to add something since the 5500 is basicly an old 7400 for features) I would consider buying an 8400 for 500$ and I can get an 8500 at wholesale cost. I would ensure you have a warranty with it though, and if not, do not put it in a cabinet.. I know that some of teh 7400s and definitly the 7300s ran hot..

Seth,

just out of curiousity what's the 8500 wholesale? Methinks if MSRP is $1500 then wholesale is probably half of that?
