Hi,

I am looking to buy an AV receiver on a tight budget. My search has narrowed down to the Pioneer VSX-D912K or Yamaha RX-V540. As far as I can make out these are the differences between the two in terms of features (correct me if I am wrong):

Yamaha has progressive scan component video switching*
Yamaha has on screen display
Pioneer needs 8 ohm speakers
Pioneer auto set up is raved about
Pioneer has DTS96/24 for dts encoded cd
The subwoofer crossover frequency is 80Hz vs 100 Hz

I am looking for a good match with my Paradigm Cinema 90 speakers - which are rated 'compatible with 8 ohms.' Is it a safe assumption that the Pioneer 912 will work well with the Cinema 90's?

Should I be looking at any other consideration?

Thanks for all responses,
Siva

*PS I looked at https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/home-audio/10343.html , but I am still not clear if the Pioneer will do progressive or HD component video switching

Hi
As far as the video goes, best to route it directly from the source to your TV - component signal ideally - unless you have multiple component sources.

The Pioneer will easily drive the 8 ohm Paradigms

DTS 96/24 is a a newer form of dts encoding that uses higher sampling rates. As far as I know not much material is out on 96/24 as yet.
