I have a very old urround system. Infinity Kappa 9 fronts, kappa 6 rears and kappa center... Do I need to worry about matching the sub or do i just buy whatever is best (HSU?)

You do not have to match the sub; buy whatever is best -- whatever that is. Could be Hsu . . . or it could be Bag End or it could be Martin Logan or it could be REL or it could be SVS or it could be Velodyne or it could be . . . well, you get the idea.

the most important thing is matching ANY sub's volume level to your mains and adjusting the crossover frequency until you no longer hear the sub as seperate from the rest of your speakers.

a giant 15" ported sub isn't going to be the best match for a lighning fast speaker like a magnepan though as you'll lose some bass speed and detail.

adjusting a sub to make it match is most important. if you can't really tell there's a sub or where it's located... then you're well matched.
