I am replacing an old Marantz amp for my stereo system and am considering buying a Yamaha AX596 (I own a 15 year old Harman/Kardon tuner - HK715) OR possibly just buying a Yamaha RX777. I wanted to upgrade to Home theaters for future expansions, but the cost for one with a phono input was too expensive -I wanted to keep my costs below $450.00 for this expenditure. From what I've read, the quality of stereo amps/receivers are better (at this price range) than home theaters for rock,jazz, classical. My question is do I keep the old tuner and buy the amp, or, just but the reciever? Would the sound quality be that much different? I really appreciate anyone's advice.
