I am sold on the *advertising and reviews* on the Axiom 80 series surround system. Any experience out there and how does a comparable set of Klipsch compare -- other recomendations ?

Some say Klipsch is a bit bright, but it largely depends on the amplification you drive them with. Paired with HK, NAD, etc their Reference and Heritage lines are as good as anything IMHO. Compared with the Axioms, I doubt you will notice a huge difference in terms of actual detail, but there will be a tonal difference. On the Klipsch side there is the matter of sensitivity, which it has in spades and the Axioms simply cannot match. This only matters if you like it really loud though or have a low wattage amp.

You would also need a receiver that can drive a 4 ohm load. The Axiom m80 requires a 4 ohm amp and not a lot of receivers can handle that.

You would probably want that anyways with the Klipsch. Their impedence curve dips pretty low.
