I was close to closing the deal on a refurb SR7400, but I have been a little wary after reading how hot it runs and it sometimes shutting down. This could present a problem to me since it will be in an armoire (vented although).
I now have my sights set on a brand new Pioneer Elite 54TX that can be had anywhere from $640-700.
1) Are these two receivers very similar in there sonic qualities? From all that I have read, they are very similar. I have heard Marantz, but not P.E. If P.E. is close to Marantz, then that to me would be my best choice. I will be listening to 90% HT. 2) Will the PE 54TX match up well with Monitor Audio Bronze series (C/L/R will be Bronze Center and BFX will be surrounds)? 3) What other speakers around $1,200-1,500 match up well with PE's and Marantz warm sounds.

Never listened to a PE, but my marantz is smooth as silk pushing a pair of Klipsh SP-1's. For warm and clean, Klipsh is a good choice.
