Blowing out speakers

I'm new to the audio biz, but I just bought a Yamaha RXV-450 receiver, and a set of Infinity Beta 20s, 150s, and the C25. I was fiddling with my new DVD player, and couldn't get sound. I turned the volume way up to max +10 dB, and nothing but low level noise came out. Wondering if I could have damaged the speakers by doing this. I have since been able to get the system to work.

If it is working properly right now, then you should be fine. Just check if all your drivers are working.

If they are working and sound fine, they are not blown. You can also smell them. Blowing is a physical process that results in a burnt smell.
