Hello All. I was searching on how to use a standard ATX power supply with a Compaq Motherboard because my Compaq's Power Supply just died; and I found this forum. I found some information in the following post:

https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/computers/120374.html

But it is still unclear to me on how to do it. I would like to use the 420W power supply that I have instead of the old 235W that my Compaq 5430US has. The atx power supply has a 20 pin conncetor and the Motherboard needs a 24 pin, so I bought an adapter but it doesn't work. Still no power gets to the motherboard. I know I have to re-arrange some cables from the power supply, but I don't know which ones.

Can anyone please give me some instructions on how to make the new power supply work with the Motherboard? I really don't have money to buy a new motherboard and throw this one out the window; or get a new power supply from compaq, which is $95

Thank you very much.

I found the pinout for Compaq's 24 pin connector. Maybe someone in here will figure out how to mod an atx power supply to make it work with a Compaq motherboard.

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/supportinformation/techpubs/maintenance_guides/123385-0 03.pdf

It's in page 61.

Here is complete information for converter/adapter generic atx 20 pin
for Compaq Deskpro EN Series...
Note: Still some bugs, but work fine.

Conversion Avanzada:

En Bios seleccionar "After Power Loss" Always ON.

Bugs:

En Bios seleccionar "After Power Loss" Always ON.

Bugs:

Hi, I use Compaq Presario 6000
I live in Europe, so voltage is 230V
But switch 230/115 was very interesting for my 2,5 years old son, so my Compaq now is dead :-) :-) with some smoke :-)
I tried to install no name power supply (I knew i have to cut some bigger hole in compaq case), system started but coolers did not. No name supply has no P9 connector (white 2pin cable at compaq Power supply). I don't know if coolers don't work cose the main board is damaged or that P9 connector is missing.
I don't have any diagram of mainboard or power supply.
can anybody help me with that?
