Old plug replacement question?

I have an older audio system and the plugs that came with the system are the normal silver plugs. I heard over time the silver plugs loose performance and so I want to upgrade to a gold plated plug. I am wondering to get the sound quality back to where it is suppose to be, do I have to cut off the old plug and connect another or will something like this do just as well? http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5 F007%5F002%5F001%5F004&product%5Fid=274%2D915

Thank you all for the help :-)

they loose performance if they get corroded. How old is your system?

From 97 I believe. How do you know if they got corroded? Can you tell visually?

Yes, you can tell.
What you may want to do is upgrade your cables. and go to 14 gauge speaker wires
