I have a large amount of Ancor marine-grade wire from a previous boat restoration project and I am in need of new speaker cables. Immediately, I wondered if this marine-grade wire would work.
Ancor wire is tinned copper. Actually, each piece of copper is tinned individually, and then stranded (Type 3) to make the apropriate AWG. If this wire could be considered appropriate as a substitute for "high-end" speaker wire, it would represent a cost savings.
I find myself wondering the same thing. Such wire comes in heavy gauges and is quite cheap (e.g., 8AWG for $1 per foot). Does anyone have thoughts on this? Did you, roller, go ahead and try this? If so, what were the results?
