I'm having problems searching so please forgive me if this has been asked before.

I just got a new home theater receiver that will accept either optical input or digital coax input from my DVD player (which also has both). I'm wondering which is better in performance? I've heard conflicting opinions from people I thought were both knowledgeable in audio... I'm using optical right now but will switch if necessary. Thanks

Well, I since have found the thread to my questions.

Sadly it still leaves me confused...but I think I will buy whatever is cheaper of the two...

Well look at it this way....if an electrical surge occurs either via thunder storm or power company the optically coupled componet will be isolated and won't electrocute the next componet in line, least not that pathway anyway. But sonicly either co-ax or toslink sound the same. That's what they say anyway.
