Hows it going guys? Haven't been on here in about 4 years. But now that i've bought another car i'm looking for some help in getting a system going.

Got a 1997 Grand Marquis LS, there's alot of trunk space and i'm thinking I want an 18" Fi BL.

Here's the specs for those who aren't familiar;

DUAL 1 or DUAL 2

Fs: 33.2 Hz | 33.2 Hz
Re: 0.7 Ohms/coil | 1.4 Ohms/coil
Qms: 5.82 | 5.82
Qes: .32 | .32
Qts: .30 | .30
Mms: 302g | 302g
Cms: 0.88mm/N | 0.88mm/N
Sd: 1210cm^2 | 1210cm^2
Vas: 181.0 l | 181.0 l
Spl: 94.1dB 1W/1m | 94.1dB 1W/1m
Bl: 16.6 N/A | 22.7 N/A
Xmax: 18mm | 18mm
Rms: 1500W * | 1500W *
Sealed box: N/A cuft | N/A cuft
Ported box: 5-8cuft | 5-8cuft
Sub OD: 18.500†| 18.500â€
Cut ID: 16.750†| 16.750â€
Mounting depth: 9.750†* | 9.750†*
Displacement: 0.26cuft * | 0.26cuft *

What I need help with is finding a good amp for the this sub and getting a custom ported box built that fits in my trunk.

I want to go with 8 Cubic Feet for the box size but am not sure about what company I should go through or even where to look. Any help with that would be very much appreciated.

The biggest square area in the middle of my trunk is
43 and 1/2" Long
23 and 1/2" Wide
and
24" High

Trying to calculate 8.0 cubic feet I came up with these dimensions for my box without the wood thickness added in

43" Long
23" Wide
14" High

Is this a good starting point for any box builder? I'd like to help whoever can build this as much as possible but I don't really know what i'm doing lol.

If you'd like to help and want more info just reply and i'll post back.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help!

If you can do 24 high, do this:

Enclosure Specifications:

Fb = 35.1 Hz
Vb = 8.2 ft^3

External Height = 21.5 in
External Width = 43 in
External Depth = 23 in

Port Width = 5 in

Cut Sheet List:

* All Dimensions in Inches.
* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.

External Enclosure Parts:

2 x Front & Back (3 parts) = 43 x 21 1/2

Left & Right Sides = 20 3/4 x 20

Top & Bottom = 43 x 20 3/4

L Port Internal Assembly Parts:

Front to Back = 14 1/2 x 20

Assembly guide (generic dimensions):

Upload

- All trunk boxes built outside the car need to fit in their way in not just have the right dimensions.

- The port needs 5" of free airspace in front of it for proper operation.

Thanks man. I might build it myself if I can figure out how to do it properly.

You're welcome, I will give you some tips to succeed:

1) Build a cardboard dummy box to see if it fits perfectly in the way in and if you can close the trunk lid without problems.
2) use Titebond II wood glue and MDF/Drywall screws and once it dried apply silicone caulk to avoid any potential leaks.
3) you can get your MDF wood cutted at Home depot, just need a jigsaw to finish the job.

If you have any questions let me know.

Alright cool, thanks man. Do you think I will need to upgrade the big 3 and get an extra battery to get the 1500w out of this sub? I was thinking I might get the aq2200d amplifier to power it. Unless there is a cheaper option that will power this sub at it's full potential. I have a stock alternator in the car 135a

The sub will take the AQ2200d, you could go with Hifonics BRZ and will do the job as well but you read about so many reliability issues with those amps that I wouldn't really recommend it.

And yes, 2.2K calls for electrical upgrades, the alt/big 3 being most important along with a good deep cycle battery and 0ga wiring.

A second battery may be necessary depending on the way you use your system, get a cheap voltage gauge and make sure you stay above 13V most of the time while playing with your car on, that's the best way to make sure you are not hurting your electrical.
