The easiest answer I can give is get to hear one and then switch to a decent sub after that.. that's all.

There are hundreds of subs what's your max budget and what are you going to use it for, like type of music, SQ, SPL etc...

What car?

What budget?

What do you have for HU?

What do you have for speakers?

What do you have for Amp(s)

What are you looking for from your audio system?

PLEASE do not get sony subwoofers. It would sadden me for u to have to go through the embarassment of having some of the worst subs ever made. I have had powerbass subs, bottom-of-the-line pioneer subs, and even DUAL subs that sounded better. And for way less $$ im willing to bet. The sony subs sound......terrible. like they have larengitis or cheapshittitis or sumthin. Please I beg of thee Don't get fooled by massive big-money marketing gurus who shove shiny red toys in ur face that have "1200 WATTS" written on them (LOL). And a hexagon(lols) Just ask and we will guide you, young one.

Okay so everyone says that I should not get Sony.
So I've looked around and found Alpine SWE-1243.
I know it's not a type R. But it's still alpine.

Jeep grand Cherokee
Hip hop rap music
Budget: cheap
Speakers: stock infinitygold. I'll swap eventually
And I need to get an amp

Oh and I'm just trying to get extra bass out of the system

And how long would these subs last?

Type Es are OK, they just handle little power and need above average enclosure size.

Subs can last years in a properly designed system and seconds if mishandled.

The better way to suggest is by knowing the following:
1) what would be you max budget for speakers.
2) what would be you max budget for an amp.
3) a sub enclosure will be needed, how much space you have or willing to give up to place it.
4) what car are you installing this on.

Both sealed boxes, my 175W RMS Pioneer were much, much better (SPL/SQ) than my 250-300W Xplod, big difference. Look at the Autotek M12 500W 12" for like $80 for a ported box.

Are u planning on putting the new subs in the boxes u alredy have? If so, what is volume of box? Ported? If so do u know the tune? ......Or arre u gonna put the new subs in new boxes? If so, how much space r u willing to give up for the box? Are u gonna build it urself? Prefab? Custom shop?
Also, how many subs do u want? And how many watts RMS power u shooting for?

I agree with Joe. I had an x-plode myself. They seem to move air without producing sound. I gave that sub away. I temporarily borrowed a ten inch q-power sub from my brother in law, and it sounds a whole lot better. You can try out the x-plodes at Wal-Mart. They have the pioneers and the x-plodes. I would not use them even if I got them for free.
