I'm getting new head-rests, they're called painfull cushions of air! I'm doing 2 or 4 18's. The sub is a Dayton DCS450-4 18" 300W.

I've thought of all of that, and I'm very indecisive because I don't know what I should do, I'm on a budget, but we all know that always changes. I havn't had a system in a long time, so I want this done quick.

It's not just any wall, it's a 16 cube 4th order wall with a 12 x 36 port aimed at the back of your head. 600W could be nasty in a box like that. I know what you're saying though, it doesn't sound like much, but I'm trying to get the most out of my "budget".

I was trying to stay away from buying alts, batts, and other stuff online because after the already-expensive prices I'd have to pay shipping to Canada, it wouldn't be a budget setup.

The box would be two boxes put together when in the car - and yes I've already figured out how to do it, I had to meditate on that one. I modelled it to .6/f3 24.5Hz/fb -1dB@43Hz/passband 24.5Hz-75Hz.

I have a 05 RE XXX 12 D2 with a fried tinsel and a fried Visonik 1500W. They didn't fry at the same time, within a week of eachother, and I don't know what happened. I think the sub blew going below port tune, and the amp I most likely wired up wrong because as soon as I turned the keys after putting it in for the 2nd time it started a smoke show. Car was stolen the same week, and I'm still pissed 4 years later.

I need to know how many watts my 105A alt can sustain with whatever amp (efficiency might as well be 70%) at whatever voltage. I figure 1000W or less. 600W for the Dayton's and 200W to 2 4x6's in the front would be ideal.

My Sunfire had a stock 90A alt & batt, big 3, 2 runs of 0 gauge, and when I went from 1500 @ 1 to 750W @ 2 I didn't notice a difference. It went into protect like twice.

Should I re-cone the 12 to an 18 and get my 1500W amp fixed and then cut up the trunk for 9 cubes @ 30Hz, foreward fire, instead of this 4th order wall?

How much is a re-cone from a 12 to an 18?

How much would it be to get my amp fixed? It's like 15% jet black, it was a total meltdown!

XXX 18 box would be:

(calculated without bracing)
outside 38 x 21 x 30
sealed outside 30.75 x 21 x 29.25
.75" MDF / 1.5" baffle / counter-sunk .75"
port 19.5 x 6.5 x 26 depth / ratio 1:3
14" of port per cube
9 NET @ 32.8 Hz

I calculated for how much space the .75" baffle adds, why does nobody think of that? The sealed part is 9.15, but the baffle adds .1, so 9.25 cubes grosse. Bracing would probably be a threaded rod because they take up like no space at all, and it's actually like .02 cubes over.

u sound really undecided but i do get the gist of it

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/store/products/15%22-187-Series.html

4 of those & a good 1500wrms amp will be a really nice sounding budget system

i own a single 10" 187 tuned 28hz & it sounds really amazing with considerable output for a rated 300wrms sub so i can imagine what a 15" in it wud sound , much more with 4 15s ...

For a drop-in recone I'd guess $150-200+ship depending on where you buy the parts. You could save more money by buying a used basket on a forum. and save even more if you buy the softparts separate on a forum. but you get what you pay for, dont cheap out unless you want cheap parts that wont take abuse.

Fixmyspeaker.com quoted me $165+shipping for parts to go from 12 to 18, and +$10 for a dual stitched lead. How much would it cost to get it put together locally?

The fully loaded 187 15" looks even better than a DCON 12, very nice, $6 cheaper too. On the Incriminator site it says the 187 15 is $169.

Push Button Terminals
Double Stacked Magnets
2" Voice Coil - Dual 4
Woven Tinsel Leads
300 Watt RMS

I'll consider 2 187 15's if ya'll think it'd be better in the same space than a XXX 18 on a used AQ 1200/2200, a 600 @ 1 for the 2 15's. Once I heard my XXX I said F everything else, and I've read that it likes 9 cubes tuned into the low 30's. I would buy everything used, and I can wait on the 4x6's and an amp for them.

$175+shipping for sub fixed
$? for putting it together
$50 box (I dunno)
$200 amp/used AQ 1200
$50 used deck
$30 wires
$20 welding support in the trunk
$100 battery

On the SSA site the Leth. Injec. 15 is $209.

Does the AQ 1200 bench 1496W at 14.4V like I read?

The Stetsom TH 2250 250w x 2ch is $269 on SSA, how do they even sell any when the AQ 1200 is $249 new?

I like the idea of low power set up as long as your goal is to be loud and low off little power. Building an enclosure that's only going to see a couple hundred watts is much easier than one designed to be a dd with thousands
Those subs have crossed my mind if I get an suv. Its been on my mind to get 4 of those subs and do like 20 cu ft with 1500 watts or so.

I see 150s very easily. I have been able to pull 148s at 40 hz with 4 12s on stock alt and battery

so I imagine on a solid designed box those can get very loud. But of course the box will be massive.

Changed my mind, I don't want to mess with 2 boxes nor +1 box to change the tune if I find out I don't like it. I was told that a wall only makes a difference if you're using lots of power. I think I'm going to sell my Xbox/games, drums, books, all my stuff to get some better audio stuff.

I'm doing a XXX 18 (quad stitched leads, where can I get woven?) in 9 @ 33 (in the trunk). Any cheapo amp will do, although the AQ 1200 used looks so good for ~$150 (lowest I've found on google), but I do want something that'll fit 1/0 gauge wiring.

I was going to sell the XXX a bunch of times, but I just can't let it go! The fried Visonik 1500, however... what would be a good price for a blown amp?

A wall would be a pain to build but 9 cubes in a trunk seems too big you would want some space for the enclosure to get the sound in the cabin. If there is no extra space at all your trunk is going to seem like it is pounding very hard but its not going to sound loud at all.
Or unless you plan on sealing the trunk and have the sub firing into the cabin then that would be loud.
but aq makes great amps I just don't think a 1200 would be enough for that sub honestly

Yeah, everything firing into the cabin and sealed off (with duct tape or something lol).

I read on Youtube that some guys' AQ 1200 benched 1496W @ 14.4V, right around the XXX RMS.

I read that it likes 9 cubes tuned into the low 30's. I did 2.2 @ 36 with the XXX 12" and it severely lacked below 35 Hz, although it was nice on 38-42, not really what I wanted. My APX 12 seemed to get lower or maybe it just had an overall muddier/lower sound to it. The box wasn't sanded, and was pretty basic - rear-fire with port to the side, no bracing, 1" MDF.
