I need help from you guys. I'm trying to decide between the Pioneer Champion series pro (12's) or kicker solo x (12's), I want two of them. I've been getting mixed opinions about both of them, I already have kicker cvr 12's, so I'm hesitant to go away from Kickers.
either choice on the recommended power is going to NEED electrical upgrades, if you have not already done so. bought $1000 give or take a few hundred depending on your batter that you already have and what not.
What is your budget? What is your goal for this system? SPL, SQ, Mix of both=SQL? What vehicle do you have? Are you open to other options?
To Drant19 I'm goin for the heaviest type base, you know something really Hard hitting! I have a 2001 monte carlo. and by electrical what all do you mean? I know I will probably have to get a extra battery, I have an Alpine 500 watt amp right now and was planning on getting one more to power each speaker. Am I on the rite track ?
solo x hands down, no competition. The square 12 has 20%more cone area than a round 12, allowing for more spl and loooower notes. They are also feild-reconable. The solo-x is straight beast!! I had one sealed with ~4 cubes with prolly 800 watts going to it. OMG.
sheed, you have a lot to learn. Hang in there and be patient, we will guide you grasshopper. To really cut the Xs loose, you will need a couple batteries and prolly a HO alternator with a 10,000 watt RMS amp. Granted, that is not necessary, so get maybe 3500 watts RMS (sundown saz 3500d)
If you plan to stick w/ a stock alt 2 batts....yea...forget the solo-X's.
Are you looking for a sick daily system....or a one-note-wonder SPL comp setup?
If your are planning on a sick daily system w/ that monte carlo, I would suggest 3-10's and ~1500wrms. Your stock alt and a good batts should be able to support ~1500wrms.

.....but....something else begs the question..... . . A) Are you looking for LOUD/SMOOTH in the cabin (for daily listening)?
Or....
B) LOUD outside the vehicle (aka, trunk beat/slap/rattle/piss off the neighbors)? . . .
I have designs for your vehicle that will meet each requirement...as well as common ground between the two. . . . . . . I design every enclosure based on the customer's preference. Be it guys that want to 'disturb the peace' or 'smooth daily' guys, or something in between....lol ,
He's saying you don't need a sub rated x,000 rms if you are only running 1,000-1,500 total. What type of box do you have right now, sealed, ported, other?
Don't buy subwoofers that require and can take alot more power than you can give them. For one, they will cost more. Second, it would cost alot of money (If you wanted to give them full power) to upgrade your alternator, battery, power wire, and of course you'll need a bigger amp. You can spend around 2k alone on just that alone.
So buy within your means. If you don't want to upgrade any of your electrical. You'll be able to run around 1000-1500rms depending on how good your current electrical is plus some minor upgrades such as big 3 (look it up).
So don't buy a 4000watt sub when you only have 500watts to give to it. Just bc its 4000watts doesn't mean it'll be louder. A very efficient 500watt subwoofer can be just as loud or even louder given the same amount of power.
