I Have a 92' F-150 for winter and I went to my dads house to store the mustang and get my truck ready for winter. I took it for a spin and noticed my lights were dimming. Now the system is my very 1st from when I was in high school.. I currently have a yellow top optima (1 year old not even) stock newer 80 or 85 amp alt. The amp is a jl 500/1 and the 4-ch. is a alpine m-300. Should my lights be dimming at such a low rms level? I have extra knu koncenptz 4 gauge wiring from the install.

I'm heading back over there tomorrow. I checked all my grounds which are connected to the seat bracket, they have been sanded down and tighten real good.. I'm curious if I should upgrade the ground from the battery to the vehicle w/ the 4 gauge? any advice would be great as this is fairly annoying. Sorry if this question is dumb but I am still learning

the battery probably needs a good charge if its been sitting for a while. you might try doing your big 3, alt to batt +, batt - to chassis, ground from motor to frame.

>>stock newer 80 or 85 amp alt.

I found your problem.

Pull that dinky alternator out and throw in an alternator rated for around 120A "Hot". It'll make a huge difference.

I figured that the pathetic alternator was the problem. Thank you for your input I will be shopping for an HO alt soon. You would think I would know this stuff allready as I am preparing for engineering school. good thing this forum has some very informative people

Yea that 80 or 85 amp alt probably does like 40amps at idle?

What size motor is in your F-150?

^ It has the good ol' 5.0.. Wow 40 amps @ idle that is terrible.. I could only find 100 amp altys at Summit racing will this be ok? I don't wanna spend a crap ton of money because this is just a winter vehicle. I did do the big 3 upgrade yesterday as deathoob recommended and it seemed to help out a bit.

lol power b@astards. Thanks rovin much better options than 100 amp altys I was looking at.. 200 amps should be enough..Since I have the head room it maybe time to step up the sound system a little bit..
