i just got off the phone with a store whos selling the 160 amp alt (80 at idle) and hes telling me that id need an optima battery, or something 1000? right now i have a duralast. Shouldnt this be ok? my big 3 is done in 4 gauge. im gonna run 1400 rms. He was telling me even 2 batterys would alomst be neccessary, but i thought if i just get a better alt ill be set. let me know, wanna buy today
duralast is a standard lead acid battery, a sealed heavy duty battery would be better... not optima they suck.. kinetik, odyssey, stinger, xs power, etc
and why only a 160 amp alt? most vehicles you can get a 200+ amp.
i would think you would not need a new battery for the alternator, if your alt is not failing to maintain voltage then there is no need for a new battery. just get a volt meter and run it off the amp to see what kind of voltage drops you are getting at full volume. if you are staying in the 13's no need for a batt
^^^ Now are they really? I have three odysseys now and i will tell you i couldn't be happier but if i knew i could have gotten them from sears i would have.
I just went threw them and they are indeed the same as odyssey. I guess the manufacturer made a deal with sears when the price of lead was down(supposedly). Needless to say i wish i knew this before i bought my odyssey batteries.
now heres my question though, would pumping 1400 through 4 gauge big 3 and 4 gauge going to the trunk be "ok".. and yes i know peeps will say id go with 1/0 bla bla.. but it SHOULD be ok right. and no im not planning on upgrading in the future lol my stuff is loud enough
