hey, I am 16, just got my licence, and my parents got me a mazda 323. I have a budget of $1500 dollars to get a sub, amp, cub box, tweakers, wiring etc. I m thinking a JL 13'' W7 for its low bass and quality. Will anyone help me find quality equipment for my budget.

Thnx

first of all....you can find tweakers at any local crack house.... secondly for subs look at brands like Fi, Digital Designs, Re, Audio Que, Amps Kicker, Sundown, RD, glasswolf will probably post his normal best/good/bad/shitty thing though.

this leave you about $500 for a wiring kit, new alt, and a box. you could probably make this work.

there is a lot of good stuff out there. these are just some things that i found with a little bit of looking. it is all very good quality stuff and im sure you would be pleased with it.

Talk to your HS wood shop teacher and ask if he'd help you build the box after school. Then you just buy the MDF and terminal cups etc and you get a semi-pro to help do the actual cabinetry work. Figure $50 in materials. You can coat the box in "fleckstone" spraypaint if you don't want to buy carpet and spray adhesive. Fleckstone looks awesome and it's cheap and easy to apply. two-stage spraypint from wal-mart.

the alternator, figure $200-300, and your HS auto shop teacher can help put that in as a class project for his students if you sweet talk him.

The wiring, figure about $70 for a 2-amp wiring kit from a place like knukonceptz.com and buy about 12-15 feet of extra large power line and 6 ring terminals to do the "big 3" upgrade (see link)
http://www.glasswolf.net/papers/big3.htm

That should dovetail with the above post suggesting gear.

He did forget the head unit though, which is about $200-250 for a decent alpine or pioneer deck with 3 pair of RCA preouts to run the amps. Other option is keep the factory radio in the dash if its got aux input or CD or whatever and you're OK with it, and just buy a line converter to adapt the head unit to your amplifiers. Then you can use a simple electronic crossover to handle splitting everything out to 3 pairs of channels.

PS, here's a cheaper alternative to save a bit of money to make room for the LOC, head unit, or labor..

Alpine Type R SPR-17C coaxials in front doors
Alpine Type R 12" sub in ported box
Alpine MRP-500 500 watt mono sub amp for the type R 12"

alpine makes good everything if you stick to the higher end products. Some of the entry level stuff is mediocre, but still well made.
