I was just wondering when looking at specs for an amp and it says something like: 1800w max
600 @ 1 ohm x 1 channel
500 @ 2 ohm x 1 channel
400 @ 4 ohm x 1 channel
how is it possible to get 1800 watts out of it.

That is max watts which means nothing. That amp claims 600w RMS (real watts).
Of course crappy amps don't even do the claimed power so we need a make/model here to determine that.
