purchasing a se15,

would a XT1600.4, 450rms at 2ohms X4

someone told me that running a 4 channel amp to a sub is a bad idea. something about Intependant gains and crossovers for each voice coil.

could someone explain to me that?

A class D (mono) amp is what should be used for subs, simply because they are a LOT more efficient than a 2 or 4 channel amp.

would there be a problem in running a 4 channel amp?

Yeah sort of. With a 2 channel amp you can bridge it to 1 channel for a sub, but a 4 channel amp can only be bridged to 2 channels.

Also the low efficiency puts a major demand on your electrical system.

You wouldn't get much power out of it that way. If it were dual 2 ohms you could do that but you would have to make sure the settings for both channels were exactly the same.

how about a xt1600.2

Dynamic power: 1600w
RMS power (2ohm): 400w x 2
RMS power (4ohm): 200w x 2
Bridged power (4ohm): 1100w x 1

between the 2 I think the 4 ch is the better option. You can run 2 bridged channels per coil - like you mentioned. I don't see a problem.
I would use a DMM to match the gains, and y cables to split your HU's sub or rear output to make sure each coil is receiving the same signal, or as close as possible.

However - at $300-$350 there are definitely better options.
