O.K. , nobody said it for me so I'll have to ask. What makes it so special that is worth a $1000.00 for a cd player? Might sound like a dumb question, but i really wanna know. No lcd, No navigation, No san disk slot, No usb port, No flip face, doesn't even look that great. Please enlighten me.

Thank Gawd! I've been afraid to post thinking the same thing. Somehow I thought I was telaported to the 80's looking at that HU. I'm not into HU's so be gentle please. Must be nice, but tell us why?

In laymans terms.
its like listening to a pyle subwoofer, clipping compared to listening to a W6 tuned.
Very accurate sound dublication. If you played a cd of glass breaking, it would sound real. Its just very well defined audio signals. Very accurate at reproducing music they way it was originaly recorded.
Very low stereo separation, High signal to noise ratio. High dynamic range.

That help?

is it REALLY worth it though? as a collectale I'm sure... but i just bought an alpine d900 which is when alpine made awesome stuff. proably the best Hu they made besides F1 status.... and its got the highest resolution screen of any in dash dvd player and it plays extremely clear and i dont think it clips at all even at full volume. oh and its as good as new... not a single scratch on it. and I paid 600.

yes i would say it is worth it for me, because i don't really care about the lcd and built in touch screen, and i don't mean to disappoint you but i believe the 7909 or 7909j was the best unit besides the f#1. I love sound quality. I like to hear everything and im sure there is stuff on cds that most normal cd players cant read. And i want to hear that stuff, and another thing sometime next year im gonna try and enter some sq comps, just to give it a shot.

wow man whats so good about that HU for it to cost that much? even if its bad@ss it cant power my subs without a amp.. i would never pay 1100 for a HU eccpecilly when its used.. can the sq really be that much better with that thing?

I would love to have it but if I had to buy all my cds out the store I would have spent well over 30k

yea i dont know anything about that HU except it must be phenomenal the way you guys are ravin about it....but, like some others, a ton of my music is either on my ipod or on burned cdr's, wouldn't it be pointless to get that HU unless you only play perfectly unscratched bought original cd's....JW, idk i see it as like not doing it justice...am i wrong or like i dont get it...dan rollins do you only play original cd's or like how are you gonna do that thing justice if its so great...again i dont know anything about it, soo...

well, i mean you wont hear a BIG difference if the cd is scratched, or if you do hear a difference it would be slight. I am going to treat it like any other HU, but im gonna try and find some HDCDs. But you will probably hear a difference with downloaded music, than music right out of the store. and again i am still gonna lay cd-rs. But I will try and get as many cds as possible.

I've only heard a Mcintosh setup once and I was not impressed. For the money it was not worth it, not even close. The setup consisted of a HU,amp and speakers all by Mcintosh.I wouldn't waste the money.I hope it's what you want though :-)

well, i have read very good things about the HU and the amps and speakers are nice but just a little bit pricey for my tastes. there is no doubt in my mind that this thing isn't going to rock my world, and if i have to listen to my jvc HU with the s's slurring on my tweeters for much longer im going to flip out!
