What are the advantages to quad voice coil?

Will that give the option to run 1 ohm whether it be one sub or two? Would a single voice coil be better, or just the standard dual? What are the advantages/ disadvantages?

To get a good 1500 watt amp, you will have to pay quite a bit more for one that does it at 4 ohms verses one that does it at 1 ohm.
