Still haven't decided which way to go. How much SQ would i sacrifice by going ported? How much power would i sacrifice by going sealed?

Not alot of SQ if you tune low. maybe 32-33. What amt. of space do they need for sealed/ported?

It'll be heard outside...just not as much. Ported moves ALOT more air. Ported is not going to make it sound bad. Ported will also make it much louder.

yeah its false. ported will be louder. i had an assassin 12 and you could hear it outside the car no problem. especially with the windows down.

if you are looking for loud port it. should still maintain decent SQ

I have a 99 Crown Vic and have run ported and sealed. Ported will be louder overall but sealed usually will give you better Sound Quality and flatter frequency response. I personally prefer sealed but it depends on the subwoofer aswell.

I have a 12w6v2 in a sealed box off a JL 500/1 amp and it sounds real good.

i also had someone tell me that i should put some nice speakers in front, and leave the rear speaker compartments empty for the sake of extra air flow... is that a good idea? does it depend on whether i go ported or sealed?

most likely the ported will be about 3 db's louder than the sealed which u will be able to tell by ear but its not a huge diffrence either

Why not build a sealed box and a ported box and see for yourself. Then you will know which one "you" like. Asking other people which is better, is not going to satisfy you at all.

BTW SQ is subjective, and you dont lose power by going sealed. You lose volume. Going sealed allows you to play your subs at its full RMS without bottoming out. POrted will be louder, but it will not take full RMS because it will bottom out faster due the the lower air pressure inside the box.

Hope this makes sense.:-)

when the VC hits the top and bottom plate, essentially running out of forward and back movement room.

too much power, too big of a box, playing below tuning. etc....
