Tuning Question

Alright I've seen this a few times:

"I'm gonna tune my box to 35hz" (or 34hz or 32)

What does this mean? Is it necessary?

I'm just gonna get a Kicker ZX750.1 Mono Block Amp & a single Alpine Type 4 15" dual 4 ohm sub...

With a vented box... So this isn't really pro, just daily driving...

Any suggestions?

Thank you... :-)

it makes the box 3 to 4 db's louder at every freq. at and above tuning....so it is louder. but depending on where you tune it at...it will not play as low.

most humans can't hear below 20hz....but you can feel it afterwards....so the general tune is anywhere from 28-40hz for daily driving.:-)

So what box size should I get for a single Type R 15" Dual 4 ohm running a 2 ohm load, using kicker zx750.1 amp?

I have a 2003 Dodge Neon SE...

If I go to my local car audio/video store can/will they build me a box?

BTW: I want vented...

^^^ Would that be alright for my sub?

or is that a POS that'll turn into a hand grenade in my trunk?

i would try 3 cubes.....

tuned to like 32-35

3/4" MDF...

your local shop could build you a box exactly how you want it...but it will cost more than anything on ebay.:-(

We're getting anywhere between $150-$250 for vented boxes these days depending on the level of finish, the fanciness and the "craminess" (how much crap we have to take off of your car to make the box fit.) Your local shop (if they are refutable) will ALWAYS make a better sounding box than generic box from eBay. We computer model every box first, have better build quality than 95% of prefab makers and if it doesn't sound perfect, we rebuild it. I can't speak for your local, but we will almost always throw in fancy pants extras for our customers when they do a custom box with us.

Well I'd rather have it sound better than good, and that's worth $50-$100....

Thanks for your help :-)
